WHITE HOUSE: ABSTAINING FROM VOTING IN THE SECURITY COUNCIL DOES NOT MEAN “A CHANGE IN POLITICAL POSITION”

A White House spokesman confirmed on Monday that the United States’ abstention from voting on a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza does not mean “a change in the political position,” according to Agence France-Presse.
John Kirby explained that “Washington, which had previously blocked many similar draft resolutions, did not support this resolution because it lacked ‘basic’ elements such as condemning the Hamas movement.”
