US President Joe Biden criticized a ruling issued by a court in the southern state of Texas to ban a drug to terminate pregnancy, according to “Novosti” news agency.
“A county judge in Texas has singled out that a drug that has been obtainable by prescription for more than 22 years, has been approved by the drug regulator, and has been used effectively and safely by millions of women here and around the world, must be withdrawn in the United States.”
He continued, “If this ruling remains in force, no drug approved by the regulator will be safe from this kind of political and ideological infringement.”
Biden described this judicial decision, which he said bans a drug used in half of all abortions in the United States, as “another attack on women’s freedom of choice.”
“This is a huge step toward the nationwide abortion ban that Republican-elects have promised to enforce legislatively,” he said, adding that the Justice Department will appeal against the Texas court’s decision.
