French President Emmanuel Macron signed a draft law on reforming the retirement system, and this document was published in the Official Gazette.

AFP reported that “French President Emmanuel Macron signed a law reforming the retirement system, which provides for raising the retirement age in the country to 64 years, according to the Official Gazette on Saturday.”

On Friday, the French Constitutional Council approved the bill on raising the retirement age from 62 years to 64 years by 2030. After that, the head of state had to sign the new law within 48 hours. The first procedures of the law are expected to enter into force on September 1.

After announcing the decision of the Constitutional Council, the French trade unions stated that they would not agree to hold a meeting with the government regarding reforming the pension system before next September 1, calling for the organization of a “popular and exceptional” protest on that day.
