BASSIL ACCUSES MIKATI OF INTENTIONALLY BOGGING NATION DOWN IN GOVERNMENTAL VOID

Free Patriotic Movement leader, MP Gebran Bassil, on Thursday said in a press conference he held in the wake of a session that was held at the House of Parliament to discuss President Michel Aoun’s message that “the president’s message was to avoid a constitutional precedent that the country could fall into and aimed at urging the House of Parliament to elect a president or to take an appropriate position vis-a-vis the formation of a new cabinet.”

“President Aoun is certain that Prime Minister Mikati is intentionally hindering the formation of a new cabinet,” Bassil added, deeming Mikati’s “will not to form a government as very clear.”

“Mikati has said that there is no need to form a government, and this matter sets a dangerous precedent in our constitution,” Bassil added.

He further stressed that “this constitutional precedent results from the fact that Mikati did not show an interest in forming a government and did not refrain, so he deliberately left a governmental vacuum.”

Bassil finally declared that the FPM would not accept any guardianship to form a government and elect a president.
