تم انتخاب ايلي الشنتيري للمرة الأولى في مجلس مدينة أوتاوا في نوفمبر 2003.
كان يملك ويدير مطعم لايتهاوس في منطقة كونستانس باي، وهو من الشخصيات المشهورة جدًا في جميع أنحاء غرب كارلتون-مارش لمشاركته الواسعة في المجتمع. إنه ملتزم بمواصلة العمل مع سكان المنطقة والشركات للمساعدة في بناء مستقبل غرب كارلتون-مارش في مدينة أوتاوا.
ولد الشنتيري في العام 1957 وهو الثاني من بين ستة أطفال. نشأ على مزرعة عائلته في لبنان، وجاء إلى كندا عندما كان عمره 18 عامًا لبدء حياة جديدة. التقى بزوجته مها بعد وقت قصير من وصوله إلى أوتاوا وتزوجوا منذ أكثر من ثلاثة عقود.
كان المستشار الشنتيري داعمًا قويًا ومتطوعًا مخلصًا في العديد من فعاليات غرب كارلتون. شغل منصب عضو في مجلس إدارة مركز الموارد المجتمعية في غرب أوتاوا وعمل مع عدة جماعات محلية في أي وقت يكون الدعم مطلوبًا – بما في ذلك المراكز المجتمعية المحلية والكنائس المحلية والفرع العسكري وجماعات المسنين. تم تكريمه عن جهوده عندما منحه مجتمعه لقب مواطن غرب كارلتون لعام 2001. وكانت استلام هذه الجائزة الرفيعة خلال العام الدولي للمتطوعين لدى الأمم المتحدة من بين أبرز إنجازاته، كما فرح بتلقي وسام الماس الملكة إليزابيث جوبيليه في عام 2012.
شغل منصب نائب رئيس مدينة أوتاوا خلال فترة المجلس 2010-2014، كما خدم بفخر في مجلس خدمات الشرطة في أوتاوا من عام 2003 حتى عام 2018، حيث شغل منصب رئيس لمدة 12 عامًا متتاليًا. من عام 2015 إلى عام 2018، شغل أيضًا منصب رئيس جمعية مجالس خدمات الشرطة في أونتاريو (OAPSB).
في فترة المجلس 2018-2022، يشغل ايلي منصب رئيس لجنة الزراعة والشؤون الريفية. وهو حاليًا أيضًا عضو في:

Businessman Eli El-Chantiry
Eli El-Chantiry was first elected to Ottawa City Council in November 2003.
Eli is the former proprietor of the Lighthouse Restaurant in Constance Bay and is well known throughout West Carleton-March for his extensive community involvement. He is committed to continue to work with area residents and businesses to help build West Carleton-March’s future in the City of Ottawa.
Eli was born in 1957 and is the second oldest of six children. Raised on his family’s farm in Lebanon, he came to Canada when he was 18 years old to begin a new life. He met his wife, Maha, soon after arriving in Ottawa and they were married over three decades ago.
Councillor El-Chantiry has been a staunch supporter and a dedicated volunteer for many West Carleton events. He has been on the Board of Directors for the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre and has worked with a number of local groups any time help is needed – including local Community Centres, local Churches, the Legion, and Seniors Groups. Eli was recognized for his efforts when his community awarded him the West Carleton Citizen of the Year for 2001. Receiving this prestigious award during the U.N. International Year of the Volunteer is one of Eli’s proudest accomplishments. Eli was truly honoured to receive the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.
During the 2010-2014 term of Council, Eli acted as Deputy Mayor for the City of Ottawa. He also proudly served on the Ottawa Police Services Board from 2003 to 2018, with 12 consecutive years serving as Chair. From 2015 to 2018, Eli also served as Chair of the Ontario Association of Police Services Boards (OAPSB).
For the 2018-2022 term of Council, Eli is Chair of the Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee. He is also currently a member of:
