PUTIN REAPPOINTS MISHUSTIN AS RUSSIA’S PRIME MINISTER

Russian President Vladimir Putin has nominated Mikhail Mishustin to serve another term as prime minister, pending approval from the lower house of parliament.

Parliament Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin announced that the State Duma will convene later on Friday to review Mishustin’s candidacy.

Mishustin’s confirmation is seen as a formality in the Kremlin-controlled parliament.

According to Russian law, Mishustin, 58, who has held the position for the past four years, submitted his Cabinet’s resignation on Tuesday as Putin began his fifth presidential term with a lavish inauguration at the Kremlin.

Political observers widely anticipated Mishustin’s reappointment, noting Putin’s appreciation for his competence and lack of political ambitions. Mishustin, a former head of Russia’s tax service, has maintained a low profile, refraining from making political statements and avoiding media appearances.–agencies
