Le pape François a souligné hier que la mer Méditerranée était devenue le « plus grand cimetière d’Europe » en se souvenant des migrants qui sont morts en essayant de rallier le continent. Dans sa prière de l’Angélus, il a évoqué une cérémonie organisée en Sicile pour rendre hommage à un naufrage d’avril 2015 dans lequel quelque 800 migrants se sont noyés lorsque leur navire a chaviré. « Ce symbole de tellement de tragédies de la mer Méditerranée continuera d’interroger la conscience de chacun et encouragera l’émergence d’une humanité plus unie qui mettra à bas le mur de l’indifférence », a-t-il dit.
