BLINKIN CONTACTS AL-BURHAN, DAGALO & URGES THEM TO ADHERE TO AL-FITR TRUCE
US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, urged, during two separate phone calls, the Sudanese army commander, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Commander, Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hamidti”, to adhere to a 3-day truce, coinciding with the advent of Eid Al-Fitr.
“Sky News” said that the US State Department website published on the Internet a statement about Blinken’s call with Al-Burhan and Dagalo, and it was republished by the US Embassy in Khartoum today.
Blinken condemned the “indiscriminate fighting” that resulted in the death and injury of a large number of civilians, as well as the destruction of basic infrastructure.
He called on both sides to “abide by the 72-hour ceasefire called for by the United Nations, or at least until the end of Eid al-Fitr.”
The US Secretary expressed “the deep concern of the United States about the danger posed to civilians, relief workers and members of diplomatic missions, including members of the US mission that came under fire during the past days.”
