AROUND 60 FLIGHTS CANCELLED DUE TO GENEVA AIRPORT STRIKE
About sixty flights were canceled this morning at Geneva International Airport, whose management decided to stop its operations between four and eight o’clock GMT due to a strike by the employees.
A tweet by Geneva Airport this morning, reported by Agence France-Presse, said: “Due to the strike of part of the workers at Geneva Airport, the administration decided to stop operations in it temporarily between six and ten o’clock (local time) with the cancellation of 59 departing and arriving flights,” adding that “Geneva Airport deeply regrets the situation and apologizes.”
Geneva Airport, the second in the country, is an important hub for the “EasyJet” company, which operates low-cost flights.
The employees decided to carry out the strike on Thursday, immediately after the airport’s board of directors announced the approval of a new wage policy, which was met with great opposition in the ranks of this public company.
This strike movement is extendable, and it is the first strike carried out by contracted airport employees under the provisions of common law since the establishment of the airport 104 years ago, according to the “Le Tan” newspaper.
