Abed Harb: A young Calgarian dreaming of prospering Ward 10

Emphasizing economy and community diversity highlights his electoral campaign

Abed Harb, a candidate running for councillor position for Ward 10 Calgary upcoming General elections, kicked off his electoral campaign last Thursday with a ceremony at the stampede attended by Northeast Calgarians.

Harb stated the main problem of Ward 10 which is negligence and lack of possible development as it has not been took care of for a long time. His campaign is based on a collective vision of new and diversified economic opportunities, tax stability and fairness, cutting red tape, quality affordable housing, better greenspaces and playgrounds, a modern library, timely road repairs, and community-based safety.

Alkalima News had an exclusive talk with Harb where he explained that his will to run for northeast Calgary stems from the deep need of the area for investments to grow as the rest of the city. “I am sick and tired of Ward 10 being neglected, I want to see it thrive”, he asserted pointing out to some aspects of his plan like building new boulevard in the area with trees and flowers so it can look nicer and help cutting down the noise. In addition to new parks by using the empty green spaces.

Born and raised in Calgary, Abed Harb has two Bachelor degrees in economics and International Relations.Being a senior Advisor to the Minister of agriculture with an extensive experience in the energy sector as a senior analyst focusing on mergers and acquisitions and business development along with his community advocacy he is able to address the community concerns from all perspectives.

“Canada is the only place where I can be a proud Lebanese and a proud Canadian as well, my roots are important to me as I am a product of the diversity in Northeast Calgary community”, added the young candidate.

Harb condemned the recent hate crimes in Calgary and Alberta calling upon the community to stand up against those crimes, stressing that the vast Majority of the Calgarians love the diversity but there is a small vocal minority that are racist, and the community must confront them.

“Our diversity is or strength”, concluded Harb aiming to promote more in details his plan which includes more diversity in the economy of the city and overcoming bureaucracy in permitting and licensing services.  Harb considers himself a candidate for ward 10 to representing all the different ethnicities forming the society there.

Noting that 88 candidates are running for Councillor in the next Calgary general elections which will take place on October 2021.
